Giorgio Mulè

Giorgio Mulè Giorgio Mulè was born in Caltanissetta, Sicily. He graduated with laude in Communication Sciences and then became a professional journalist in 1991. In March 2018 he was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies with Forza Italia political party, to then become a member of the parliamentary Transportation and Communications Committee, his party’s coordinator in the parliamentary committee that supervises the Italian public radio and TV, as well as the official speaker of his political party Forza Italia at the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
In March 2021 he was appointed Undersecretary for Defence in Draghi’s government. He was among the draftsmen and the rapporteur of a bill on the use of semi-automatic defibrillators in non-clinical areas, aimed at protecting the health of Italian citizens. The bill was first approved by the Chamber of Deputies, and then by the Senate unanimously, and was published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic on August 13, 2021. Mr. Mulè was also among the draftsmen of a bill on the creation of the National Memorial Day for the Victims of Covid 19, in memory of all those people who died due the pandemic. The bill was first approved by the Chamber of Deputies unanimously on July 23, 2020, and then by the Senate on March 17, 2021.
As a journalist, he was:
- The director of Panorama magazine (from September 2009 to January 2018);
- The director of Mediaset TV show Studio Aperto (from October 2007 to August 2009);
- The director of Mediaset TV Videonews (from June 2006 to September 2007);
- The director of Economy – Mondadori (from November 2004 to May 2006);
- A reporter for Panorama magazine (from April 1998 to November 2004);
- Editor-in-Chief at Il Giornale newspaper (October 1992 to March 1998);
- A reporter for Giornale di Sicilia newspaper (from April 1989 to September 1992);
- Editor for Il Progresso italoamericano - New York (from October 1987 to March 1989).
He received several awards, including but not limited to the Ninni Cassarà Prize in 2011 for his position against the mafia, the Biagio Agnes Prize 2017 for his commitment in favour of innovation, the Lex Spoletina Prize in 2019 for his active actions for the promotion of the city of Spoleto, the Boniface VIII International Prize for supporting the culture of peace, and the Nassirya for Peace Award in 2021 for his commitment in promoting culture and legality.
In his career, he was also a professor of Information Theories and Techniques.

Motivazioni del Premio

The Vissi d’Arte - Città di Alcamo International Culture Award for the 2021 Edition has been assigned to Mr. Giorgio Mulè, a member of the Italian parliament and undersecretary at the Ministry of Defence, for having portrayed – as a journalist and a writer - different social and cultural standpoints with impartiality and incisiveness, and for having promoted profound reflections on political, historical and cultural topics.
As an MP and a government’s officer, Mr. Mulè has constantly been committed to opposing all crimes against humanity and has contributed to increasing the public awareness of environmental issues, great emergencies and health matters.
